This project will evaluate the impact of the Tuition Partners (TP) component of the National Tutoring Programme (NTP). TP is a national programme of subsidised tuition targeted at disadvantaged pupils needing catch up support, to be delivered over the 2020/21 academic year. Tutoring will be available for academic years 1 to 11 in English, maths, science, humanities and modern foreign languages (the evaluation will focus on maths and English).
The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) will be overseeing the delivery of this programme in the academic year 2020 – 2021. Schools sign up to the programme via Tuition Partners. More information about the TP programme can be found here.
The EEF has commissioned an independent evaluation of the TP programme, led by National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) along with Kantar and the University of Westminster. The evaluation aims to quantify the overall impact of the TP programme on pupil attainment, and will look at how this varies by different types of tutoring, pupil, and school characteristics. The evaluation will also explore the experiences of schools, tutors and pupils in order to improve the delivery of similar programmes in the future.
The evidence generated through this evaluation will be used to help Tuition Partners and tutors design and deliver high-quality tuition, and help schools to better target and engage the pupils who would benefit from tutoring.
TP School Research Champions
We are also looking for schools who are participating in the TP programme to help us to understand the impact of tuition by providing some additional information and becoming TP School Research Champions. As a TP School Research Champion you will be given early access to the research findings from the project. TP School Research Champions can display the Research Champion badge on their website and school communications to show their additional commitment to the research. Further information can be found here.
Research Champion Comparison schools
We would also like to work with schools who are not participating, and do not plan to participate in the TP programme this academic year to help us to understand the impact of tuition by providing some information and becoming School Comparison Research Champions. Schools that help us in this way will specifically contribute to the evidence base about the impact of tuition by providing a way for us to compare schools participating in tuition with similar schools that are not taking part. Further information can be found here.
