Local Authorities' Perspectives on School Reorganisation

Shirley Goodwin

17 May 2006

This report examines the underlying reasons for school reorganisation, the processes involved, the different strategies and approaches, and the impact of recent legislative and capital funding changes, including the Education and Inspection Bill 2006.

Drawing heavily on the lessons from seven varied case studies of local authority reorganisation projects, it provides a practical guide for authorities to help them to make the process effective. A range of suggestions and helpful tips are given throughout the report to aid those embarking on school reorganisation.

Other examples of school partnerships are included in EMIE’s report, Schools in collaboration: federations, collegiates and partnerships, prepared by Ronald Arnold and published in March 2006.
