The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a study of educational achievement run by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The PISA study takes place every three years and examines the performance of 15 year old pupils in reading, mathematics and science. It also collects a range of contextual information on school and pupil backgrounds. Wales has participated in PISA since 2006. In 2018, 79 countries from across the world took part in the PISA study.
This NFER study uses the 2018 PISA data for Wales to:
- explore regional variation in PISA results
- compare PISA results with those of the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE)
- examine differences in performance in English- and Welsh-medium schools.
