RCT Evaluation of Families Connect
Families Connect aims to provide parents of children aged 4–6 with confidence and skills to support their child’s learning in the home environment, build relationships between parents and schools, and make a difference to children’s learning and social and emotional development.
There are eight weekly workshops, delivered in schools with a high proportion of children on Free School Meals (FSM). The workshops cover topics such as literacy and language development, numeracy and maths, and personal and social education.
This in-school randomised controlled trial (RCT) aims to explore the impact of Families Connect on children’s language, numeracy, social and emotional development; and on parents’ role in their child’s learning.
The Nuffield Foundation has commissioned and funded the evaluation. Save the Children UK (SCUK) manages the Families Connect Programme. The National Foundation for Education Research (NFER) and researchers from Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) are conducting the evaluation.
